“Finding a place so local, and so in line with our own values was simply delicious!,” says Tim Gibbs Zehnder, singer and bassist, about the band’s recent series of Saturday night appearances at LYFE Kitchen in Culver City, CA.
For the past few months, the trio version of the band had been serving up an eclectic mix of “oldies” and top 40 along with their broad range of originals both old fav’s as well as brand new unreleased material.
Recently, the band had enjoyed special guest appearances from the multi-talented (and hilarious) uke slinging, funk singing, Keythe Farley, the dulcet tones of award-winning trombonist, Michael Clarke and the contagious energy of vocal group, B.L.A.K. (presented by CBfreeLA). Among the positive feedback from LYFE Management, they are convinced Zehnder and friends are contributing to an emerging local music scene in downtown Culver City.
Because they had had the whole night, the band found room to explore material they may have hardly touched before. From new takes on old standards to newly written songs speaking to the very moment we’re all in, the band (and audiences) relished the space. “That’s the beauty of a regular, no-pressure hang” admits drummer, Mike Boggio.
The band will be taking a well-deserved break from the “heat” of the kitchen, for now. But stay tuned for future possibilities.
